So you’re engaged, now what?

So you checked the whole “We got engaged” thing off your list. You are glowing, loving every minute of the thought of spending a lifetime with your best friend. You call your grandmother, and she’s so happy for you. But then she asks, “Have you set a date? Will it be a fall wedding? You know spring is beautiful where you live.” And it hits you, oh I have to plan this thing that everyone has been waiting for-a wedding. You might be excited, you might be terrified, or you might just be completely lost in the thought of “wedding what?”. Well let me tell you, when my guy got down on one knee, I was the happiest of happy. Like cry so hard, in so much shock, my cheeks hurt happy, that I had completely forgot about planning a wedding. So here I am, trying to help ya out a little, sister or mister. Here’s what I did first, and then on.

Alright, here we go.

  1. Celebrate – in a way that makes you happy. Take a walk, drink champagne, stare into each others eyes. Whatever you do, do it for you.
  2. Call your peeps – FaceTime, text, call. When they ask you when, tell them “when I know, you’ll know.”
  3. Celebrate again – this can look very different than the first, but the people around you will be so happy, they will want to celebrate you – let them! (better get used to that now, on the day of, its all about y’all)
  4. Talk – Talk about what you want. Write 3 things down that are most important to you for your wedding vision (from “I must have a cake” to “I want a Catholic Mass”). It might be different from each other, but put the expectation out there. What do you, as an individual, want at your wedding.
  5. Talk to your family – What do they envision? Your mom and dad, they birthed you, and raised you, trust me they have a vision for your wedding. Ask them, and consider this.
  6. Set a budget – and trust me this is hard – but you have to do it.
  7. Consider the size of the wedding and location you will marry in.
  8. After that – you are on your way to success! You’ve set a great foundation for a successful wedding planning life. Now on your way to the big day!
This is us, the day after we got engaged! Wedding planning-here we come
